Toffee Apple Tray Bakes

Recipe by Avril Saunders

  • 200g Light Brown Muscovado Sugar
  • 100g Butter or Low Fat Spread
  • 4 Tablespoons Golden Syrup
  • 300g Nature’s Path Hot and Steamy Porridge Oats
  • 400g Cooking Apples (finely sliced)
  • 100g Nature’s Path Maple Sunrise

  • 12” Swiss roll tin / baking tray, lined with baking paper or greased
  • Saucepan
  • Mixing bowl

1) Put the sugar, butter (or spread) and golden syrup into a saucepan. Heat gently until butter has melted.

2) Reserve 8tbsp of the syrup mixture, spooning into a separate bowl.

3) Stir the porridge oats into the saucepan syrup mix.

4) Tip the oat mixture into the swiss roll tin and spread evenly, pushing the mixture firmly into the tray with the back of a spoon. **

5)  Arrange the apple slices over the top of the oat mixture.

6)  Mix the Maple sunrise into the saved syrup mixture, then sprinkle evenly over the apples.

7)  Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes (Gas Mark 4/180°C/350°F/fan oven 160°C) until firm to the touch.

8)  Leave to cool completely before cutting into slices.

** Alternatively do not press the mixture into the tray and serve the bake as a crumble….DELICIOUS….The choice is yours!
